Coaching Staff on the Recruiting Trail

This weekend I was able to speak with UK Hockey assistant coach, Clay Pergram, and we dug into recruiting and the route the staff is taking to continue to build this program into a contender for the ACHA D2 title year in and year out.

This past Friday and Saturday, Coach Tim Pergram made a trip down to Tampa to take in some games the USPHL Showcase. While there he watched games in both the Elite and Premier divisions of the league. This was coach Tim’s second trip of the year to a USPHL hosted event. He is looking to put a check mark next to some players names on his list, in hopes that they will be under his guidance in Kentucky Blue for the 2019 season.

The Cats already had 13 Prospects to watch, but Coach Tim took the time to find a few new prospect during the trip, but he was not alone. Over those two days plenty of college teams where in the building from the NAIA, ACHA D1, ACHA D2, ACHA D3 Clubs looking for their next class of talented players. Some programs, including Iowa State, FGCU, Alabama, Indiana Tech, Alfred State, Lehigh Valley, and Lindenwood where in all in attendance watching the next generation of players

Coach Tim in known to have a good coaching relationship with Frank Scarpaci GM and Coach of Florida Eels (10+ year coaching relationship dating back to Hockey Night in Boston where a “Southeast” team curated by Coach Tim won a National Championship), while building solid relationships with Coach Lincoln Flagg of the Carolina Eagles, Garret Strot of Tampa Bay Juniors, Zachary Vit of the Potomac Patriots (Taylor Vit Brother), Cody Rodriguez Assistant Coach Hampton Roads Whalers. These relationships are what leads to better players coming to UK, if the coaches trust Coach Pergram and know he has the best interest for the players in mind, then the players will come.

Time is yet to tell who will join the train for the 2019-2020 campaign in Lexington, but I would not doubt Coach Pergram and staff on landing the best players for this program.
