This past weekend, your #15 University of Kentucky Hockey Club got the sweep of Cleveland State in what was an amazing series that saw both games go into overtime.
On Friday the Cats got the 2-1 win with Eastlack scoring the game winner in overtime off a Kasch assist. Kasch would also score the only other goal for the Cats that night. Saturday there was more scoring from both teams. The game would go into overtime tied at 4 goals each, and Captain Jimmy Kasch would knock in the game winner. It would be Jimmy’s third of the night to complete the hat trick. Gary Eastlack and Jordan Shannon would score the other two UK goals on the game.
This was one of those series’ you want to see the team respond to. A team that can come out and match you blow for blow, hit for hit, and still pull out the wins. This is the type of series that gets the team ready for the stretch run of the season to shoot for that Nationals birth.
The Cats finished the first semester with an 18-1-1 record, only two wins off from last year’s amazing mark of 20 wins. The team will now have the semester break to rest, recover, and be with family over the holidays. The team will be back on the ice on January the 11th with an away series against SIUE. They will be back home at the Barn on January 19th for the annual rivalry series against hated Eastern Kentucky in the Battle of the Bourbon Barrel. The Cats will have 10 games left in the season once they return from break, and the stretch run will begin as Coach Pergram gets the team positioned for a possible ACHA Division 2 Nationals birth.
